Spring part 3.

I'm getting bored of these titles too. But I thought I'd just quickly wrap the last few spring plantings we pulled off last weekend.

A pair of hydrangeas we planted last year along the back fence. They apparently drop their leaves during winter so we're not as poorly off as I had previously thought. You'll notice that the one of the left has put out some decent foliage already this year. The one on the right however was completely trampled by the fence guys who came to fix our storm-addled back fence. Thanks fence guys!

Thus we replaced it with an azalea. We're such a sucker for these big blooms. Hopefully it doesn't go the way of the hydrangea.

There's actually 3 of these variegated lilies that we put in last year. I had previously thought maybe the overspray from the sprinklers wet-rotted the leaves -- they get little sun where they are. Talking to the nursery folks about a replacement, they mentioned that snails and slugs could have been another culprit.

So we're trying out these "Plantain Lilies" instead -- also known as Hosta. And we bought some snail and slug bait to spread generously around them for protection.

We also grabbed ourself the replacement lavender for out front mow-strip as well as some eggplant, pole beans, and basil for the veggie garden.
